Sulfur – important for life

When Sulfur is low in the horse’s diet, the structure of collagen and glucosamine might be unstable making hooves and joints weak. This can cause pain and poor performance.

MSM is a natural product and sulfur is found particularly in nerves, connective tissue, skin, hair and joints.

Sulfur is one of the basic building blocks of the body's structure and it also helps to detoxify the body. Sulfur is an essential component for animals and humans and is the third most common element in the body after calcium and phosphorus. It is mainly found in muscle tissue, skin and bones. Although sufficient sulfur substances are absorbed with a protein-rich diet, in certain situations (such as intensive training, old age and illness) there is an increased need for the supply of sulfur.

Sulfur is involved in many metabolic functions including carbohydrate metabolism, protein synthesis and protection from oxidative stress. Sulfur supports the formation of healthy connective tissue and cartilage of your horse.

The amino acid methionine, which is produced with the participation of sulphur, plays an important role in the detoxification metabolism of the liver.

Sulphur/MSM is essential for the body to produce healthy cells again.

The versatile functions of sulphur

The body consists of 0.2 percent sulphur. This supposedly small amount is five times higher in the body than the important mineral magnesium and even 40 times higher than iron. A particularly high proportion of sulphur is found in hair and nails.

Sulfur has many functions:

  • Support in the production of amino acids such as cysteine and methionine
  • Involvement in the production of enzymes
  • Participation in the production of hormones
  • Influencing the structure of enzymes and proteins
  • Support for physical detoxification

This means that MSM is involved from cell formation and repair to fat breakdown. Sulfur is also part of numerous antioxidants and thus supports the immune system. Sulfur is also a component of collagen, which is extremely important for bones, teeth and cartilage as well as for the skin, tendons and ligaments. MSM is also frequently used in homeopathy.

Unlike many other substances, the body cannot produce sulphur itself. It should therefore be clear what MSM is primarily good for: it ensures a balanced Sulfur balance.
